今回、10 x 10 American Photobooksではtwelvebooksの濱中氏と共同で写真集のセレクトを行ったが、それは思った以上に大変な作業だった。1つにそれはたった10冊であること、同時にそれは2人が同意したものでなくてはならないからだ。なので、ここに選ばれた写真集は、編集者として、またブックディストリビューターとして、日本の写真マーケットで光を当てたいと考えている写真集のリストになっている。
We had a hard time deciding on our selection for 10x10 American Photobooks. One reason was because we could only pick ten books from the many great photobooks out there. And the other was that we both needed to agree upon all the books selected. So as a book distributor and an editor, respectively, we concluded that our final selection list would reflect books that we would like to see given more exposure in the Japanese photography community and market.

10×10 American Photobooksとは？
アメリカの写真集にフォーカスした企画。2013年9月にT.I.Pに設けられるリーディングルームでは、10人のアメリカの写真集に関するスペシャリストがそれぞれあまりまだ知られていない若手作家の作品集（自費出版を含む）を中心に幅広く10冊の写真集を選び、合計100冊の写真集が並ぶ。オンラインでは、英語および日本語圏におけるそれぞれ10名のスペシャリストがオンライン上にて写真集を紹介。日英バイリンガル仕様のスペシャルブックも作成する。このイベントの目的は、ニューヨークの写真家たちやコレクターたちの間でしか知られていなかった／見ることが出来なかった、今最も旬の、また力のある新進作家の写真集を実際に見てもらう機会を提供する事にある。イベント終了後は、広く公共に開かれている場所で多くの方に無料で見て頂くため、セレクトされた写真集100冊を東京都写真美術館に寄付する。

速水惟広 Ihiro Hayami
写真雑誌「PHaT PHOTO」編集長。雑誌の編集長としての業務に携わりながら、様々な写真イベントやワークショップのディレクションを手掛ける。最近では、Tokyo Institute of Photographyが主催する「Tokyo International Photo Competition」を、ニューヨーク・ブルックリンに写真団体「United Photo Industries」と共同でオルガナイズ。同コンペは、2015年に東京で開催予定の国際フォトフェスティバルに向けた企画の第一弾。2008年～2012年にかけては、東京・銀座にある写真ギャラリーRING CUBEのディレクターの一人としても活動。主な展示に、アレハンドロ・チャスキエルベルグ「High Tide」（2012）、「PDN’s 30 2011」（2011）、アレックス・プレガー「WEEKEND」（2010）など。
Ihiro Hayami has been Chief Editor of the Japanese photographic magazine PHaT PHOTO since 2012. He also directs photography-based events and workshops, including the upcoming Tokyo International Photo Competition 2013 and the launch of Tokyo’s first international photography festival in 2015. From 2008 -2012, he worked as a director at Ring Cube Gallery in Tokyo. His selected curatorial exhibitions include Alejandro Chaskielberg’s High Tide (2012), PDN’s 30-2011 (2011) and Alex Prager’s Week-end (2010).
濱中敦史 Atsushi Hamanaka
大学卒業後に渡仏、2010年に帰国しtwelvebooksを設立。現代写真を中心に出版社やアーティストの活動をプロモーションするプラットフォームとして、イギリスの出版社「MACK」など主にヨーロッパの出版社の国内流通を多く担当。他にも写真展の企画や選書、ヴィジュアル・ディレクションなどを手掛ける。
Atsushi Hamanaka is the founder of twelvebooks. After graduating from university, Hamanaka moved to France. He returned to Japan in 2010 and founded twelvebooks, which promotes publishing and artist activities focused on contemporary photography in Japan. twelvebooks is also the national distributor for MACK and other European publishers in Japan. Hamanaka’s extensive experience with photography and photobooks includes exhibitions,book design and photobook selections.
